Cheryl graduated with a B.Sc. Physiotherapy from the University of Cape Town in 1982 . She worked locally in hospitals before moving abroad to Canada in 1989. Various adventures in the prairies followed before relocating to Vancouver in 1991.
There, she continued to train and gain experience in the musculoskeletal field and also certified as a hand therapist.
In 1996, Cheryl moved to the UK for what was meant to be a short six months. Eight years and two children later, she returned home.
Whilst in the UK, Cheryl managed a private hospital’s physiotherapy department and also trained as a Certified Pilates instructor through the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute.
In 2005 she began working with well-respected physiotherapist, Shari Rosenberg where she shaped her interest in spinal work. It is with Shari that Cheryl became interested in working with chronic pain and Mindfulness.
Cheryl eventually branched out on her own opening a studio in Constantia Cape Town. She has kept a loyal following of patients and her exercise classes have grown from strength to strength.
More recently and through personal interest, Cheryl started exploring Mindfulness Interventions and has subsequently completed a two year certification as a teacher of Mindfulness Based Intervention (MBI). This form of practice is very helpful in treating stress, anxiety and chronic pain.
In 2021 Cheryl became part of Discovery's Spinal Care Program
Cheryl comments with passion for her profession: “I believe in a multifaceted approach to healing including :
education on the function and movement of the body, mindfulness based practices; rehabilitation and hands-on treatment. Beliefs, fears and habits all need to be explored on this path to healing.
Healing occurs best in a participatory environment where the patient is guided towards healing themselves.
Cheryl is still passionate about the outdoors and can be found mountain biking across the wilds on weekends.

Lymphoedema Management (2022)
Carla studied at the University of Pretoria, graduating in 2014. She then completed her community service year on the East Rand of Johannesburg at Far East Rand Hospital where she worked in various wards and with rehabilitation of out-patients. As a student and graduate, Carla was involved in road running races as first aid and post-race management.
Carla subsequently worked 5 years in Private Practice in Pretoria in the areas of cardiothoracic postsurgical rehab in hospital, sports injuries, general hospital rehabilitation and lung physio. During this time, Carla did the OMT qualification, a year-long course on the treatment of spinal conditions, as well as dry needling and courses on chronic pain conditions.
During Covid, Carla and her husband, Sean, decided to move their little family down to Cape town. Carla initially worked 3 years in an out-patient based private practice focusing on back and neck pain, foot surgical rehab and general sports injuries. She also did a specialization in Lymphoedema Management as well as a Pilates teacher course.
Over the last 14 years, Carla has discovered a love of running and has completed 3 half marathons and several 10km distances. Her enthusiasm doesn’t only lie in her own running, but also in learning about the mechanics, training and education surrounding the running sport. Following on this, she has developed a passion for foot rehab and education of the biomechanics of foot and ankle with relation to sports as well as the more sedentary patient
Carla is deeply rooted in the importance of spending quality time with her family. When she is not running or working, you can find Carla exploring the green belts, forests and mountains with Sean and their 2 little busy boys Aiden and Tristan.
With all the different aspects of physiotherapy that Carla has worked in, she has come to appreciate that movement and exercise are valuable tools in helping patients to get better and gain more awareness of their bodies. Working at Body Moves has given her the opportunity to educate patients and guide them into managing their conditions and improving their quality of life with regards to health and movement.
